MATADORA DANCE PRODUCTIONS

We proudly support, collaborate, and celebrate various companies, organizations, and individuals who are using the medium of dance to tell the stories of their communities and their histories.

ROGUE GESTURES - FOREIGN BODIES

Nava Dance Theatre is preparing their show, “Rogue Gestures, Foreign Bodies”. What is it about? Many women arrived in the US in the 70s and 80s to work as nurses after the Immigration and Nationality Act. This WIP explores how the paid and unpaid labor of women paved the way for their families to create a sense of belonging in a new place, while also acknowledging and often mourning fading connections to their homeland.

The Matadora Creatives Mission:

We make films to amplify the work and perspectives of Culture Keepers. Culture Keepers are artists at the forefront of contemporary innovation in traditional art forms. Matadora Creatives is a media production and distribution company based in the Bay Area, CA, founded and owned by a collective of BIPOC, women and genderqueer individuals. Our vision is to amplify voices of contemporary diaspora, immigrant, and indigenous cultures across multimedia. We work to decolonize and unseat patriarchal systems by transforming social environments and expectations. We remix traditional modes of creativity in modern and futuristic fashions to elevate artists’ perspectives. We believe in relationships based in collective benefit through individual empowerment.
